TRANSFER Danube Project Launches to Address Agro-Climatic Risks in the Danube Region
The TRANSFER Danube project (InTegRAted moNitoring System For agro-climatic risks within DanubE Region) officially launched on the 1st of April 2025, marking the beginning of a significant cross-border initiative to strengthen climate resilience in agriculture across the Danube Region.
Implemented within the Interreg Danube Region Programme under the thematic priority “A greener, low-carbon Danube Region”, the project addresses the growing impact of climate change on agriculture. It focuses on analysing emerging patterns of extreme weather events—such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves—and on developing innovative tools and strategies to support sustainable adaptation in the agricultural sector.
A key output of the project will be the development of a transnational Danube e-platform. This platform will serve as an integrated hub of climate, water resources, and agricultural data, providing access to maps, models, good practices, and response strategies. It will also support knowledge transfer and promote cross-border cooperation by offering tools tailored to help stakeholders - especially those in vulnerable crop regions (with a focus on winter wheat and maize) - adapt to the increasing challenges of climate change. In cooperation with partners across the Danube Region, the project will establish a standardised monitoring system for the phenological status of selected agricultural crops. This will form the basis for evaluating crop-specific water balances and yield projections, ultimately strengthening climate resilience in farming communities.
Beyond technological solutions, TRANSFER Danube seeks to raise awareness among policy makers and the private agricultural sector about the long-term effects of climate change on agricultural productivity. The project’s main target groups include local and regional decision-makers, agricultural policy experts, and farmers, all of whom will benefit directly from the project’s outputs. By encouraging transdisciplinary cooperation and improving the dissemination of scientific knowledge, the project aims to increase the impact of climate and agricultural research across the Danube Region. The tools and strategies developed through TRANSFER Danube will not only serve local needs but also offer transferable solutions adaptable to other European regions facing similar climate-related challenges.
The project consortium brings together 11 partners from 9 countries: Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Montenegro, and Austria. The partners will gather for the official in-person opening conference, hosted by the lead partner, the National Meteorological Administration of Romania, in Bucharest in September 2025.
The total project budget is EUR 1,842,379.96, of which EUR 1,473,903.96 is covered by the Interreg Danube Region Programme co-funded by the European Union (more information about the programme: https://interreg-danube.eu/). The project will be implemented over 30 months, running from April 2025 to September 2027.

TRANSFER Danube: First Year Review Meeting in Bulgaria
The First Year Review Meeting within the frame of the TRANSFER Danube project (InTegRAted moNitoring System For agro-climatic risks within DanubE Region), co-funded by the Interreg Danube Region Programme, was organised in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, on the 21st and 22nd of April 2026. The host of the event was the Bulgarian project partner – Association Centre for Sustainability and Economic Growth (CSEG).
The conference was opened by the event’s organisers and followed by a welcome speech from the project Lead Partner, the National Meteorological Administration of Romania.
The first working day was dedicated to reviewing overall progress during the first year of the project implementation. In the first session, the Lead Partner made a recap of all project activities and an overview of the outputs that should be achieved. Also, they discussed with the rest of the partners the main challenges they encountered during that year.
Each activity responsible partner presented their implementation status, the achieved activities’ progress and key lessons learned. In addition, the TRANSFER Danube e-platform was mentioned. It aims to provide professional tools and indices that support the monitoring and assessment of agro-climatic risks and phenological monitoring. The next sessions included the following topics: Financial Implementation, Project Management, Monitoring and Communication. The main focus was on reporting practices, quality assurance mechanisms, and communication and dissemination activities at project and partner levels.
A representative of the Interreg Danube Region Programme Managing Authority/Joint Secretariat attended the meeting, providing project partners with feedback on how to maximise the overall performance during the remaining periods of the TRANSFER Danube project.
The first day concluded with a Management and Steering Committee meeting, during which a review of activities and progress on Specific Objectives 1 and 2 was made, and next steps were discussed.
The second working day continued with an overview of the activities under Specific Objective 3, and each partner’s responsibilities in the upcoming phases.
A Financial management session followed, which included a discussion of partner-level and project-level forecasts.
The conference concluded with a project Communication session focusing on project communication activities, national dissemination events and how to increase stakeholder engagement. A final debate was organised to outline the monitoring and evaluation, as well as the upcoming events of the TRANSFER Danube project.

TRANSFER Danube: Első értékelő találkozó Bulgáriában
A TRANSFER Danube projekt megrendezett első éves értékelő találkozóra 2026. április 21-én és 22-én került sor a bulgáriai Pazardzhikban. A rendezvény házigazdája a bolgár projektpartner – a Fenntarthatósági és Gazdasági Növekedési Központ Szövetsége (CSEG) – volt.
A konferenciát a rendezvény szervezői nyitották meg, majd a projekt vezető partnere, a Román Nemzeti Meteorológiai Hivatal köszöntője következett.
Az első munkanap a projekt első évében megvalósított tevékenységek áttekintésére szolgált. Az első ülésen a vezető partner összefoglalta a projekt összes tevékenységét, és áttekintést adott az elérendő eredményekről. Emellett a többi partnerrel megvitatta az adott év során felmerült főbb kihívásokat.
Minden tevékenységért felelős partner bemutatta a projekt előrehaladásának állapotát, az elért tevékenységeket és a legfontosabb tanulságokat. Ezenkívül átekintettük a TRANSFER Danube e-platformot is, mely célja, olyan professzionális eszközök és indexek biztosítása, amelyek támogatják az agrárklíma-kockázatok nyomon követését és értékelését, valamint a fenológiai monitoringot. A következő ülések az alábbi témákat ölelték fel: pénzügyi áttekintés, projektmenedzsment, monitoring és kommunikáció. A fő hangsúly a jelentéstételi gyakorlatokra, a minőségbiztosítási mechanizmusokra, valamint a kommunikációs és disszeminációs tevékenységekre helyeződött projekt- és partnerszinten.
Az Interreg Duna Régió Program Irányító Hatóságának / Közös Titkárságának képviselője részt vett a találkozón, és visszajelzést adott a projektpartnereknek arról, hogyan lehet maximalizálni az összteljesítményt a TRANSFER Danube projekt fennmaradó időszakaiban.
Az első nap az Irányító Bizottság ülésével zárult, amelyen áttekintették az 1. és 2. egyedi célkitűzéssel kapcsolatos tevékenységeket és előrehaladást, valamint megvitatták a következő lépéseket.
A második munkanap a 3. egyedi célkitűzés keretében végzett tevékenységek és az egyes partnerek a következő fázisokban történő felelősségvállalásainak áttekintésével folytatódott.
Ezt egy pénzügyi menedzsment blokk követte, amely kiterjedt a partner- és projektszintű előrejelzések megvitatására is.
A konferencia egy projektkommunikációs üléssel zárult, amely a projektkommunikációs tevékenységekre, a nemzeti disszeminációs (eredményterjesztő) eseményekre és az érdekelt felek bevonásának növelésére összpontosított. Végül vitát szerveztek a TRANSFER Danube projekt monitoringjának és értékelésének, valamint a közelgő eseményeknek a felvázolására.
